Cushing Y.E.S.S. (You Expect Something Special!)

In the middle of Fiscal 2010 Year, a group of interested chamber members
gathered together to try to find a way to encourage Cushing businesses to provide
even better customer services that the level that was currently being provided.
They also wanted to create a program that encouraged local consumers to shop at
This group of business people spent a considerable amount of time discussing
these two issues. It was not that they felt that Cushing businesses did not provide
good service or that local consumers did not shop at home. But because of our
geographical location as it related to being almost centered between our two major
metro areas of Tulsa and Oklahoma City, we were losing dollars for items that
could be purchased here in Cushing.
The results of their efforts were built into a program called, Cushing Y.E.S.S.
(You Expect Something Special!).
In 2010, with the assistance of Payne County Extension, we developed three
employee training programs. Those programs, which were Telephone Etiquette,
How to Deal With Difficult Customers and the Oklahoma Pride Program were
targeted at employees who worked almost solely with consumers. These programs
were delivered for a very minimal cost.
In 2011, we offered these same programs again, this time at no cost and
added a program called Dealing With Generational Differences.
Also in 2011, the Cushing Chamber of Commerce initiated a recognition
program under the umbrella of Cushing Y.E.S.S. The program, through the
Cushing Chamber Ambassador’s Committee, recognized businesses who were
nominated by the general public for providing “outstanding customer service.” Ten
businesses in 2011 were recognized with two of those ten being nominated twice.
This program remains in existence. It is open to any business, not just to
chamber member businesses. The Award can be nominated by any consumer who
feels like, while shopping in a specific Cushing business, an employee or business
owner went above and beyond to provide good customer service.
All that is needed is to contact the Cushing Chamber of Commerce and
nominate a business. Provide us with some details as to why you believe they are
worthy of the recognition and we will do the rest. We will schedule a time to make
the presentation, invite both the Cushing Citizen and KUSH Radio and along with
our Ambassador Committee, make the presentation of a framed Cushing Y.E.S.S.
