Cushing Public Schools 1401 North Little 918-225-3425 Cushing Board of Education President - Chuck Greer Vice President - Dr. Frank Denny Clerk - Janet Bozworth Member - Shawn Hubble Member - Mick Evans Within the last ten years new classrooms, libraries, and computer labs have been built and equipped at all schools in the district. A $350,000 technology bond issue passed by voters in 1996 provided state-of-the-art computers in every school building in the district with building-wide electronic networks at the secondary schools. Efforts are currently underway to provide Internet aceess to all schools via a wide area network. In March, 1997, voters passed a $2.55 million bond issue to construct a high school field house. Construction is in progress and will be completed in the summer of 1999. In addition to the regular K-12 programs, Cushing also serves as headquarters for the Special Services Co-Op, a center which provides services for severely and profoundly handicapped children within a five-county area, and the Child Service Demonstration Center which serves learning disabled children in Payne, Lincoln, and Creek counties. School Sites: Wilson Early Childhood Center To reopen fall, 1999 and to be the site of a new program for four-year olds. Deep Rock Elementary - 215 Harrison Elementary - 127 Harmony Elementary - 306 Sunnyside Elementary - 210 Cushing Middle School - 452 Cushing High School - 643 Total Enrollment - 1953 Size: 78.5 square miles School year: Mid August through May School Holidays: Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Martin Luther King Day, Spring Break, Memorial Day, Three Teacher Professional Days. Total Budget: $12,850,000 Total Per Pupil Expenditure: $3,771.00 Employment: 130 teachers - 47% hold advanced degrees; 104 support personnel. Graduation rate: 92% Dropout Rate: 2.5% College: 47% of Cushing graduates go on to college; 70% of Cushing students who are college freshman maintain a college GPA of 2.0 or greater. Outstanding Academic Achievements: 5th Consecutive Academic All-Stater (Billy Howell 1999) Academic All-State teams in football and golf. 1999 Seniors were offered over $360,000 worth of scholarships Test scores show Cushing students performing well above average Quality State-Of-The-Art Technology: $350,000 Technology Bond Issue provided new computers in all schools with the middle school and high school getting a computer in each classroom, local area networks, e mail and technology training for teachers. This upgrade brings us to our third generation of computers.A full time technology support personis provided for the district's teachers. Work is currently underway to provide Internet to each school building and to connect all buildings in a Wide Area Network. Curriculum: Continually reviewing, updating and developing all curriculum areas. Now have a comprehensive K-12 foreign language program. Alternative Education Program: Extended Day and Extended Year Programs Student Alternative Center Advantage Academy - CMS and CHS Cushing Dropout rate has decreased to 2.5% compared to a rate of 4.8% in comparable districts. Cushing's high school graduation rate is 92% compared to 79% in similar Oklahoma school districts. Project Accelerate Kids-Elem. Alternative Classroom (Gr. 3-5) Exciting Extracurricular Activities: Band & vocal music - Over 70 members strong, the CHS band continues to grow and excel in a variety of competitions, while vocal music enrollment climbs and students advance to the state level of competition. Band concert and seminar with nationally renowned clarinetist, Eddie Daniels, and Doc Severinsen. Athletics - All sport programs are growing steadily and excel with regular appearances in district and state tournaments. CHS annually produces All State athletes in all sports. Progressive Capital Improvement Program: $2.55 million high field house approved by voters March 4, 1997, completed 1999. |
