ELECTRICAL ENERGY
The Electrical system is owned and operated by the City of Cushing. Therefore, we do not have the involvement of the corporation commission nor stockholders to satisfy. Electrical rates are established locally to best serve the overall best interest of the community. The City has a generating capacity of 22,664 kilowatts, and can also receive another 19,000 kilowatts through its interconnect to The Grand River Dam Authority which provides for a total electrical system capacity of 32,850 kilowatts. Recent peak demands of the electrical system are approximately 23,000 kilowatts, or 45% excess capacity. GAS Natural gas for the Cushing community is provided by three companies: Reliant Energy Company, Oklahoma Natural Gas and Exoko. WATER The City of Cushing owns and operates the water system. The water system consists of two separate and independent water sources. The primary water supply is a 591 acre lake which is served by a 4,000,000 gallons per day treatment plant. There are two separate water lines (12 inch and 20 inch) that deliver the treated water to the City's two 1,000,000 gallons reservoirs. The second system is the City's deep water well field which can produce 2,500,000 gallons per day. The combined total production capacity of the water system, is 6, 500,000 gallons per day. Current maximum demand for City water is approximately 2,000,000 gallons per day. Note: The City is working on a new water system costing approximately $9,500,000 that will be completed in 1999. The new plant will have a capacity of 3,000,000 gallons per day expandable to 6,000,000 gallons per day with the water source being from wells. SEWER The City owns and operates the sewer system of the community. The City's system is a rotating biological contactor plant, in compliance to EPA standards, and has the ability to treat 1,000,000 gallons of sewage per day. The Cushing treatment plant also has the ability to retain on site an additional 26,000,000 gallons of sewage for later treatment. REFUSE The City of Cushing has contracted for the collection and disposal of all industrial, commercial and residential refuse with BFI.
